European Union Sanskriti Festival,Guwahati,(10-16/ Dec/2011 )
Gauhati Cine Club is organizing its 4th Guwahati Film Festival-2011 from 10 to 16 December 2011 at District Library Auditorium Guwahati. The festival includes European Union Sanskriti Festival 2011, which will be organized in association with member states of European Union. There will be 13 nos of films from 10 different countries of E.U. The theme of the festival is Child and Youth, which will be inaugurated by His Excellency, the Governor of Assam Shri Janaki Ballav Patnaik on 10th December at 4.oo pm. His Excellency Ambassador of Poland in India Prof. Piotr Klodkowski will attend the function as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries will be present in the opening ceremony are Mr. Piotr Opalinski, Deputy Head of Mission Embassy of the Republic Poland in India, Mr. Pavel Svitil, Charge d’Affairs, Delegation of the European Union in India and Mr. Jahnu Barua, Eminent film maker of India. The inaugural film of the festival “The Magic Tree” from Poland directed by Anarzy Maleszka will be screened after the inaugural function.
From 11th December onward there will be two shows of the European Union Sanskriti Festival at 10.00am & 12.30 PM daily.
The films are “The Magic Jacket” (Hungary), “The Orince And Pauper” ( Bulgaria), “The Balcony”(Lithuania,) “Ricky Rapper and the Bicycle Thief” (Finland), “Kirikou” the Wild Beast”, “Blaock Mor’s Island” ( France), “Sniff The Dog” (Netherlands), “Lotte from Gadgetville” (Estonia) “Nocturna”, &” Mandito Four Eyes” (Spain), “Trouble at Timpelited” (France) and “Pery, Buffalo Bill and I” “Sweden.”
Admission to all shows are free. Although the targeted audience are children and youth, all shows are open for all age group. Parents may also accompany with their children.
4th Guwahati Film Festival will include a tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika & Dr. Mamoni Raisom Goswami by screening films.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was the founder of Gauhati Cine Club.As a tribute to his demise, the club has made a special arrangement to screen five films, of which, “ERABATOR SUR” (1956) and ‘PRATIDHWANI” (1965) were directed by him while he gave music direction to the rest three films namely ‘Aparoopa”,(1982) directed by Jahnu Barua “Khoj” (1975) directed by Pulak Gogoi and “Sangkalpa” (1986) directed by Hem Bora.
The film ”Sanskar” (1997) directed by Ranjit Das based on the a story of same title written by Dr. Mamoni Raisom Goswami will be screened as a tribute to her demise.
The films will be screened at 5.00 from 11th to 16th December 2011.
Mr. A.K. Absar Hazarika, President and Mr. Kanak Kalita, General Secretary and Mrs. Madhurima Baruah, the chief convenor of the festival committee have informed the club has decided to hold a special
function every year on Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, to inspire younger generation to continue to cultivation of works of him to preserve them for eternity.
